Salman Rushdie a coward, says Taslima
Taslima Nasreen

Anupam Kher says Taslima's comment is ironical considering she is a person who has taken shelter in another country!

Salman Rushdie's decision to skip the Jaipur literary fest has resulted in more debates than one. After Rushdie declared that "paid assassins" were being sent by the Mumbai underworld to eliminate him, author Taslima Nasrin took an anti-Rushdie stance by tweeting: "Rushdie apologized to Mullahs & became born-again Muslim after fatwa was issued against him. Canceling India trip is his latest cowardly act." This was enough to trigger a new debate and the one of the people to contest Taslima's view was actor Anupam Kher. Retweeting Taslima's views, the actor said: "This from a person who has taken shelter in another country is ironical:)".

Not one to give up, Taslima shot back saying: "You think writers who're forced to take shelter in another country shd shut their mouth! They shldn't hv freedom of expression!" The microblogging site soon heated up with Kher saying: "You don't need to shut up but you are passing a judgement on @SalmanRushdie's decision and calling it cowardly.:)" Then, it was Taslima's turn to answer and she did by writing: "@AnupamPkher Why shldn't I say that his act is cowardly if I think his act is cowardly? Didn't you ever pass a judgment on anyone's decision?" Anupam chose not to reply to this one but this time around, Taslima made an open-ended remark by just writing: "Chamchas have cow-dung in their heads."
