Presidency University Bangladesh Dhaka apply online for the posts of professors and assistant professors 2012

KOLKATA: Candidates aspiring to teach at Presidency University will now be able to apply online for the posts of professors and assistant professors.

However, the government has not sanctioned any post for associate professors - the erstwhile reader post between the professor and the assistant professor. "Those teachers who are already associate professors can apply for the position of assistant professors and mention that they have already reached the level of associate professors. Presidency University, while considering their application, will protect their posts and pay," said vice-chancellor of the university Malobika Sarkar.

The government has sanctioned a Rs 7-crore grant for research and professional development. Faculty members can use this grant for research and attending seminars. The remaining amount will go toward the development of the university.

Faculty members will be entitled to research and professional development grants - assistant professors will get Rs 1 lakh, associate professors will be paid Rs 2 lakh, professors Rs 3 lakh and distinguished professors will be paid Rs 4 lakh annually. "The faculty members can use this money to attend seminars, purchase books to upgrade their knowledge from time to time, buy instruments for their personal research apart from the research that is being carried out in their individual departments and others.

Prior to applying for the advertised posts, existing teachers of Presidency College have to fill in the option forms circulated among government college teachers indicating that they are willing to apply for university teaching. "The statements will have to explain their current interest and future plans in both teaching and research," the vice-chancellor said.

The government has already sanctioned 104 posts of assistant professors in Presidency and another 80 vacant posts of professors and assistant professors will be required to be filled up. Apart from these 184 posts, those who would want to opt for a transfer to other government colleges, their posts too will need recruitment," said a senior Presidency University official. The advertisements for posts of distinguished professors will be published later.
