Niira Radia, the high-profile lobbyist who featured prominently in the leaked tapes that emerged at the height of the second-generation spectrum allotment scandal last year, has decided to call it quits from the communications business she built

She did so in a statement sent Sunday afternoon by the Vaishnavi Group, her consultancy, in which she was quoted as saying: “To give precedence to my personal priorities of family and health, I have decided against renewing any client mandates and to exit the business of communications consultancy.”

She added: “It is a painful decision which has been taken after much consideration and consultation with my family, doctors, clients and colleagues.”

It was all well-coordinated, as you might expect from someone in the public-relations business, with two statements included in the same release from her two biggest clients: Tata Group and Reliance Industries.NEW DELHI, 30 OCT: In a surprise move, Ms Niira Radia, owner and promoter of Vaishnavi Group which has mandate from Tata group and Mukesh Ambani-led RIL, has announced her exit from the business of communication consultancy.
“To give precedence to my personal priorities of family and health, I have decided against renewing any client mandates and to exit the business of communications consultancy,” she said in a statement. It is a painful decision, taken after much consideration and consultations, the statement added.
Ms Niira had been in news related to 2G controversy in the recent past. She was in media glare last year when leaked tapes of her conversations appeared in the media. Although there was no charge against her, she was named as a witness by the investigating agency.
Reacting to her surprise decision, Tata Group chairman Mr Ratan Tata said: “The Tata Group respects the personal wishes of Niira Radia in not renewing any client mandates. She has built Vaishnavi from scratch into the company it is today, often subordinating her personal and family interests in favour of her clients' priorities.”
Vaishnavi has had the PR mandate of the Tata Group since 2001 during which period it contributed significantly to the building of the Tata Brand, he said. Vaishnavi's engagement with the Group has been ethical and satisfactory, he added.
A Reliance Indutries spokesman said: “We regret the decision of Niira Radia to discontinue her association with the business of communications consultancy and not renew any of her client mandates. “We have enjoyed a professional and fulfilling relationship with Radia and her team over the last three years.”
"Radia's commitment has been very impressive and she has always led her team in a manner that tactical developments do not lead to a de-focus on the strategic issues. “We do appreciate and respect her wishes for a compelling need to focus on her family and personal issues. Ms Radia leaves behind a very capable team and an indelible mark on the communications consultancy business...., the RIL spokesperson added.“I thank our key clients for their understanding and mutual agreement to bring closure to this decision. I am also grateful to them for their support in taking my decision to its logical conclusion, offering assistance in mitigating the damages and thereby fulfilling all our existing contractual commitments,” Ms Radia said in her statement.

“The Tata Group respects the personal wishes of Ms. Niira Radia in not renewing any client mandates. She has built Vaishnavi from scratch into the company it is today, often subordinating her personal and family interests in favour of her clients’ priorities,” Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata said in the statement.

He credited the firm, which has represented Tata since 2001, for contributing “significantly to the building of the Tata Brand. Their engagement with the Group has been ethical and satisfactory.”

An unnamed Reliance spokesperson said in that company’s statement: “We regret the decision of Ms. Niira Radia to discontinue her association with the business of communications consultancy and not renew any of her client mandates. We have enjoyed a professional and fulfilling relationship with Ms. Radia and her team over the last three years.”

On a day when, if India was looking at the news at all it was probably to see the results of the Indian Grand Prix, it was a small, rather anticlimactic piece of news, lacking all the drama that accompanied Ms. Radia’s last foray into the public realm

Delhi Police, Justice ML Mehta sought its response by November 14 on the bail pleas of Kulkarni, former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahabir Singh Bhagora and alleged BJP activist Suhail Hindustani. Justice Mehta also sought a status

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response from the police on the bail pleas of four accused, including Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former aide of BJP leader LK Advani, and two ex-BJP MPs in the cash-for-vote scam.

Issuing notice to Delhi Police, Justice M L Mehta sought its response by November 14 on the bail pleas of Kulkarni, former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahabir Singh Bhagora and alleged BJP activist Suhail Hindustani.

Justice Mehta also sought a status report from the police by the next date of hearing.

The four accused approached the high court challenging the order of the trial court dismissing their bail pleas.
Kulkarni, who is in jail since September 27, has challenged the trial court's order which had rejected his bail
plea saying that he was the "guiding star" and "facilitator" of the conspiracy aimed at mocking the Republic of India.

In the petition filed through advocate Mahipal Ahluwalia, Kulkarni claimed that he, along with the BJP MPs, got involved in the sting operation, conducted by a private news channel only to expose the "horse trading" that was going on to save the then UPA-I government in the vote of trust in the Lok Sabha on July 22, 2008.

Claiming themselves to be "whistle blowers" who helped in exposing corruption, the accused pleaded that the trial court had wrongly dismissed their bail pleas and that order should be set aside.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Ashok Argal, an accused in the case, has also moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case and his bail plea is likely to be heard on Tuesday.

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has registered a criminal case against 22 individuals, who allegedly posted “highly offensive” content against senior Congress Leader, Digvijay Singh, reports PTI (via Outlook). The case was registered on 29th September under Section 66 of the IT Act which deals with punishment for sending offensive messages through communication services. It was registered after a 44 day probe by the Police, following a complaint filed by Digvijay Singh’s lawyer Rohit Kochar on 16th August, which had named eight websites including Facebook, Orkut, Ibibo, Twitter, MSN, Youtube, newsofdelhi.Com, dhimagkharab.Com and had sought registration of a case against then under Section 79 of IT Act.

Section 66 of the Indian IT Act lists offenses including sending by means of a computer resource or a communication device, information which is grossly offensive or has menacing character, information which he knows to be false, but for the purpose of causing annoyance , inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred or ill will persistently, or any e-mail for the purpose of causing annoyance or inconvenience or to deceive or to mislead the addressee or recipient about the origin of such messages, and provides for a punishment amounting to imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and with fine.

According to a report in Mail Today, which claims to have a copy of the FIR filed on behalf of Digvijay Sigh, the complaint states that Singh is aggrieved by the “unlawful activities” of various websites that have committed “serious criminal offence” by using computer resources to send and post “menacing, annoying, insulting and injurious” content, messages, pictures and other data.

It also mentions that the disparaging content is “grossly offensive, menacing in character” and designed to cause “annoyance, injury and insult to the Congress leader and his reputation”. It further adds that the issue has caused “acute mental pain and agony to Singh, his family members, friends and colleagues”, and that “the issue is also causing grave damage and injury to the reputation, goodwill and image of the Congress.”

Singh has asked the Police to take action to ensure that the websites expeditiously reveal the identity of the culprits, who have acted “unlawfully” by posting and spreading offensive material against him. He also added that social networking sites and other websites “cannot absolve themselves from the duty of being responsible and diligent service providers

IIT JEE 2012 Registration begins today Online Application process 2011

IIT JEE 2012 will have two modes of registration. The online mode will be active on the IIT JEE website from October 31, 2011 to December 10, 2011 and the offline mode, ie physical sale of application forms,

IIT-JEE 2012 Online Application Process Started

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have tweaked the format of next year’s joint entrance examination (JEE) after being criticized for falling standards by Infosys Ltd chairman emeritus N.R. Narayana Murthy.

Aspirants for a place in India’s elite engineering schools will now have to score minimum marks in each of three subjects they are tested in—physics, chemistry and mathematics—as well as a minimum aggregate to be considered for admission, the institutes said in a statement on Wednesday.

The IIT-JEE is one of the most competitive examinations in the country, with just two of every 100 candidates qualifying for admission to the 15 IITs.

But Murthy, an IIT alumnus himself, said on 3 October that IIT graduates fare poorly in jobs and overseas colleges. He blamed the entrance process and admission coaching centres, which he said prepare candidates through rote learning, for the drop in standards.

Currently, students are ranked on a merit list based on overall marks. Coaching centres often encourage students to focus on any two subjects of their choice, as even students who are weak in one subject can make the grade. But such students come under pressure once they get admitted, as well as later in their careers.

“Obtaining a rank in IIT-JEE 2012 does not guarantee admission to any of the courses available in IITs, IT-BHU and ISM, Dhanbad,” said IIT Delhi, which is organizing next year’s examination.

Besides the 15 IITs, the information technology department of Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU) and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad also select students from JEE.

Under the new format, candidates must score at least 10% in each subject and 35% overall to be considered for the merit list.

Separate rank lists will be prepared for students from other backward classes (OBCs), scheduled castes and scheduled tribes as well as for disabled students—but on the same principle. For example, an OBC student must score at least 9% in each subject and 31.5% aggregate to be on the OBC rank list.

“For the first time, we are making the cut-off list public even before the entrance. The predefined cut-off will be made public through the admission brochures,” said S.K. Chowdhury, chairman of the JEE committee at IIT-Kanpur.

The move will give equal weight to every subject, said a professor at IIT-Delhi. “We have seen visible disparity in the scoring pattern of many students. The effect of coaching centres can be reduced now,” the professor added, requesting anonymity.

Some 485,000 students took the JEE in the last academic year, vying for around 10,000 seats. The next examination will be conducted on 8 April, 2012.

The change may also help ensure no seats are left vacant, especially in the reserved categories. “Around 300 seats go vacant every year and we hope this change will also fill up these seats,” said Chowdhury of IIT-Kanpur.

Gaurav Mittal, who runs DMC Tutorials and Quest coaching centres, said the change in JEE format won’t have much bearing on the way they approach preparing students.

“They are attacking the false perception that coaching is a must for entering IIT,” he added.

A FERRARI ON THE PODIUM ON F1'S FIRST PASSAGE TO INDIA

Podium: second place Jenson Button, McLaren Mercedes
Podium: second place Jenson Button, McLaren Mercedes

Sebastian Vettel won the 2011 Formula 1 Airtel Grand Prix of India, but it might as well have been a replay of his victory in Korea a fortnight ago as he simply ran away and hid and left Jenson Button to chase him from a distance.

Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber were even further behind while yet another clash with Felipe Massa left a bitterly disappointed Lewis Hamilton to a seventh-place finish in the McLaren behind the Mercedes duo of.

Fernando pitted twice, using the Soft tyres in the first two stints of the race and Hards in the third and final one. Felipe, who started off with one less set of Softs than his team-mate was on a similar strategy. After the seventeenth round of the Championship, the team and driver positions remain the same in their respective classifications: Fernando is still third in the Drivers, with Felipe sixth: the Scuderia is still on the lowest step of the podium in the one for Constructors.

Fernando Alonso:

“It’s nice to jump on the podium for India’s debut in Formula 1 and I’m pleased to have a new trophy to take home. However, today was a special day, full of contrasting emotions. In fact, the satisfaction at getting a podium finish cannot cancel out the sadness which has been with us for several days, because of the deaths of two of our colleagues, two special people – Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli. After this race, second place in the Drivers’ championship is still possible, but it will be very difficult because McLaren is on great form at the moment, even if the gap is only 13 points.

We are aware that on paper, we are behind the two Red Bulls and two McLarens: then, if something unusual happens, we can make it to the podium. Today, the team was fantastic, managing to fix a problem on the front wing which was only identified twenty minutes before the start. At the start, I did not get away particularly well and so Button was able to pass me. Then I tried to stay close to Webber and when he slowed down a bit, I closed right up and, staying out on track a few laps longer than him, I was able to get ahead of him. Being patient paid off. Now we head for Abu Dhabi, a race that is a bit unusual…Maybe I will go to the Ferrari Park to play golf to relax prior to the race and then, on Sunday night, I will try and bring home the only trophy not yet in my collection.”

Felipe Massa, Scuderia Ferrari
Felipe Massa, Scuderia Ferrar

Felipe Massa:

“There’s not much to say at the end of a weekend like this. I am really unhappy that I was not able to finish a race in which I showed I had the pace to fight for the podium. As for the collision with Hamilton, I can only say I do not share the opinion of the Stewards who inflicted the punishment. I simply stayed on the ideal line, braking on the limit and staying on the part of the track that was rubbered in. What else could I do? It’s the umpteenth time that Hamilton runs into me this year and it seems it’s some sort of fatal attraction…

In the past, I tried to talk to him but he did not seem to be interested in doing so. Now it’s best to immediately turn the page and think of the final two Grands Prix of the year. They are both special, because Abu Dhabi is a sort of second home race for Ferrari, with that amazing theme park which sits alongside the circuit and then comes Interlagos, which is always special for me. I will try and forget this trip to India as quickly as possible, but that will be absolutely nothing to do with the country

"F1 racers aren't here today cause they have a rule of not partying before the race," said actor Arjun Rampal, who is hosting the after-parties on all three days at Jaypee Integrated Sports Complex.

"I am glad that I have got the opportunity to host an event like this. Formula One is a very glamorous sport and we have all the F1 bosses and socialites of Delhi present here. You will see the drivers, Bollywood celebs and Lady Gaga on Sunday," he added.

Rampal, who is the co-owner of Lap, which is organising the after-parties for F1, assured that Sunday's party will be a much grander event with Lady Gaga's performance and Bollywood's A-listers like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor attending.

Friday night's bash happened to be the 81st birthday party of Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone, who was accompanied by Rampal on the red carpet. "All the drivers are very happy with the tracks. And I think India has a great potential and we can sustain the momentum by frequent participation," said Ecclestone.

With none of the F1 racers present at the event except Narain Karthikeyan, who left the venue within half an hour, others attending Friday night's bash were host Arjun Rampal, Sussanne Roshan, Chunky Pandey, Priya Sachdev, Rahul Dev, actress Shweta Salve, designers Rohit Bal, Tarun Thailiani and JJ Vallaya.

Internationally known DJ Roger Sanchez played for the night and looked dapper in a T-shirt, jeans and a cap.

"I am excited to play here and am looking forward to the crowd inside. F1 is my favourite and I am happy to be here. I have performed in India before and just love the vibe in here. There won't be Bollywood music tonight as I didn't get enough time to listen to the tracks," Sanchez said.

Rajinikanth in Ra.One is not the real

A piece of disappointment for Rajini fans, the minute long cameo of the real-superhero Rajinikanth aka Chitti of Robot was actually graphically created in the film Ra.One.

Highly placed sources reveal that Shah Rukh’s talented VFX team had already created the replica and imaging of Rajinikanth. But, the South legend’s flashing visit to SRK’s studio in Mumbai was put to life by performing real motion capturing technique.

Motion Capturing (MoCaP) is one of the great new frontiers in the world of movie making and is becoming a crucial tool in complex digital effects.

A source elaborated, “The VFX team of Red Chilies had already created a graphically designed flawlessly looking face of Rajini, after taking textures from Rajini’s Robot sequences. Sensors were put on the face of Rajinikanth and his facial expressions were captured through MoCAP”.

“Rajini was also made to wear Chitti’s attire and walk in and out of the sporty Benz car, his entire body movements especially the facial expressions were captured and real motion was put to his computer generated face and body,” disclosed the sources.

As per sources, in haste to meet up the deadline of release, Rajini’s voice was also recorded on the VFX machine and not in a professional dubbing studio making it sound shabby.

Visual graphic expert revealed, “The entire activity took around a couple of hours, perhaps if Rajini sir would have not made it to Mumbai we would have to use a body double to do the needful”.

Robert Zemeckis has produced three films entirely using MoCap: Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have also used the technology in their productions.

Why Aamir Khan so secretive ?

His contemporaries — actors Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have already got a firm foothold in Tellyland. But that hasn’t deterred actor Aamir Khan from making plans of debuting on the small screen as a host and also as a producer. The latest actor to join the TV star bandwagon, Aamir however confesses that it wasn’t an easy decision to make, as he doesn’t know much about TV shows and the industry. However, now that he is set to come up with his show soon, the non-conformist actor-filmmaker is keeping the details of his upcoming show a secret, just like his roles in his upcoming films and even their titles.

The star is secretive and is keeping mum on his show’s concept or what it will be called. “Firstly, my show isn’t like Oprah (Oprah Winfrey’s chat show)! I hardly have seen that show. When I was in America, I must have watched it a couple of times, but that’s it. And of whatever I recollect of it, my show isn’t like it. In fact, my show is a different concept and not ripped off from anything, therefore I have been intellectually and personally challenged more than ever. But I have not come to a conclusion about the name of the show yet, so I can’t say anything on that for now,” says Aamir.

Ask him about his upcoming film starring actors Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor and Aamir quips, “I’m not very good at marketing. So I don’t know if I should even start talking about a film that will only release in June. And as far as the name of the film is concerned, it’s a suspense thriller. And hence we thought for a suspense film, why not keep the name of the film in suspense for now. Film’s name apart, my show’s name too is in suspense for now, so suddenly I feel that there is too much of a suspense in my life.”

As for his debut on TV, Aamir feels that may be the beginner’s charm would make things right. “Every thing has two sides — good and the bad. Likewise in my case too, there are a few drawbacks. One of them is that I don’t know much about TV industry, I lack in terms of knowledge. And the advantage is that because I don’t know much, I will love to do things my way. But then that sometimes surprises people around and they tell me it doesn’t happen like this here. So I question them back and ask why it doesn’t happen this way here?” he smiles.

Big B infuriated by Twitter imposter

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is left fuming after an imposter used his identity on Twitter to criticise Shahrukh Khan's latest release Ra.One.

The 69-year-old actor has come out strongly against this attempt to malign his relationship with the King Khan.

"Attention !!! Someone using my fake ID and writing rubbish... My ID is @SrBachchan... fake ID being disgustingly used is @SrBachhann (sic)," he wrote on Twitter.

"Fake ID of mine being used to write opinions on Ra.One... I have not even seen the film and shall always wish the best for ShahRukh (sic)," he added.

The imposter bashed Shahrukh's superhero film, which released yesterday, saying, "Saw #RA1. What a WASTE. Even the worst of Abhishek's like Drona were much better. May be SRK's mid age crises (sic)."

Bachchan also warned the miscreant saying he would not tolerate such negativity and malice.

"Of late a great amount of negative, malicious, completely untrue remarks being written against me... I shall bear with silence... but beware the fury of a silent man .." Bachchan said.

Formula 1 in India world adjusts to life in India

NEW DELHI: The Indian capital is set to get a taste of F1 glitz and glamour this weekend as India hosts its first Formula One Grand Prix, with parties and events featuring global A-listers organised in New Delhi. Topping the bill is pop star Lady Gaga
Formula 1 has done the right thing in coming to India for the first time this year, claims Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn, despite teething problems at the new Buddh circuit.

Although drivers are relishing the layout of the new track near Delhi, teams and media have been battling with power cuts, some crude infrastructure and even local wildlife - including bats and rats - in buildings.

But Brawn thinks that F1 is right to be in India and says that everyone in the sport is 'tolerant' of the practical issues that have been encountered so far.

"The track is fantastic," said Brawn. "You don't really know until cars start running around, what the track is like. But the track is fantastic. It has got an exciting combination of corners and straights. It has a very long straight and some very important corners, some combination of corners that will be quite tricky.

"The facilities are good. Clearly it has just been finished but we understand that and we are not criticising that. We know that next year there will be another step forward with the facilities because it has been a massive challenge for everybody to get it finished, so we are very tolerant and understanding of the situation."

Bernie Ecclestone was seen inspecting the facilities on Thursday, and said he was happy with the efforts that had been made to get the track as complete as possible.

"It's super. The track is super," he said. "They have done everything we wanted them to do, within two or three years of us reaching an agreement. It took Silverstone 25 years, so I think they have done well."

Although the glitz and glamour of the multi-million pound F1 industry is in stark contrast to some of the poverty in India, Brawn says it is vital that the sport races in places like India.

"India for us is a fascinating new place for us; people comment on the contrast of something like F1 within the communities of India, but if we don't come here how can we help?" he explained.

"How can we contribute to making things move forward if F1 stays away from India? What solution does that provide? It doesn't provide any solutions, and F1 coming to India maybe we can contribute in a small way to the development of India as a nation.

"What is fascinating for me is the knowledge that people have of F1, because it is not a country where F1 has existed before. Talking to the fans and talking to the media, it is astonishing how much knowledge and enthusiasm they have for the sport.

"I think because India as a nation is going forward in the area of technology, F1 appeals. It is an area of high technology and India is an area that is rapidly advancing, and it is a great fit. I hope we can provide a good show for the fans."

Brawn has also played down concerns about the dirty track surface at Buddh, with dusty conditions expected in early practice.

"It doesn't help, and it is always nicer if you have a lot of different lines that the drivers can take, but quite honestly during the race, a lot of the track becomes unusable because of the rubber.

"If you look at any track during the race, there are no-go zones because the rubber builds up because of marbles. I don't think it will be a big issue.

"Everyone is very understanding. We are really pleased to be here, really excited to be here – we understand that there are things that for next year need a gentle improvement, but it is a fantastic facility.

NEW DELHI: The Indian capital is set to get a taste of F1 glitz and glamour this weekend as

India hosts its first Formula One Grand Prix, with parties and events featuring global A-listers organised in New Delhi.

Topping the bill is pop star Lady Gaga, performing at an invitation-only show in a five-star hotel club after the race on Sunday.

The "Born This Way" singer, who appeared as her male alter ego during MTV's Video Music Awards in August, will perform for the first time in India in front of guests invited by the club co-owner and Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal.

Earlier this year, in an interview with Indian chat show host Simi Garewal, Lady Gaga said she would like to soak up the local culture by taking an Indian cooking class.

Also making their debut in India is heavy metal band Metallica as part of F1 Rocks, which adds an extra dash of glamour by inviting top bands to perform at some of the races.

The cheapest ticket to attend the inaugural Indian Grand Prix at the new Buddh International Circuit is 2,500 rupees (about $50). That is a bit expensive for most Indians, but affordable for the country's growing middle class and its expanding disposal incomes.

But for the after-parties that are open to all, including one that will feature a DJ set by British eighties star Boy George, locals will have to fork out at least 15,000 rupees (around $300) -- a month's salary in some Delhi households.

Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Kahn and Hrithik Roshan are expected to be in attendance and could be joined by Hollywood big-wigs. Local media reports said Tom Cruise had been invited.

At the luxury 60-acre (25-ha) resort near the track where celebrities and F1 drivers like Michael Schumacher will be staying, last-minute preparations were being made to ensure quirky requests are met, including one from Formula One management headed by Bernie Ecclestone to have elephants available for guests to ride.

With around 100,000 fans set to pack the stands, the atmosphere should be electric at the $400 million circuit just outside Delhi.

"Formula One is finally coming to India," said media worker Dalariti Nongpiur, 28, who paid 6,500 rupees for a ticket. "To actually hear that sound, to feel the heat of the track. I can't believe that it's actually going to happen and I'm all excited about it."

Fans are soaking up the buzz and local media has gone into overdrive this week with wall-to-wall F1 coverage.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing, the extravaganza," said Hasan Malik, 27, who is flying in from Mumbai to attend.

But not everyone is as enthusiastic and many of Delhi's 16.8 million population are not even aware that the grand prix is taking place -- people such as Kamla, a maid and mother of four.

When asked about the event, she shrugged and said her focus was enjoying her days off for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which was celebrated this Wednesday.

Ra.One : Movie Review

Movie Name: Ra.One
Star Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Armaan Verma, Arjun Rampal
Director: Anubhav Sinha
Producer: Gauri Khan
Music Directer: Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani
Genre: Sci-Fi

Story: The story is about a father and his relationship with his son. Shekhar Subramanium (Shahrukh Khan) tries everything possible to impress his son, but Pratik (Armaan Verma) believes that his father is not so cool. In an effort to impress his son, Shekhar designs a game which changes their lives. The game which was meant to be played, starts playing with their lives, marking the entry of Ra.One and G.One.

Story Treatment: With months of promotional activities, Ra.One has tremendous curiosity value attached to it. The story juggles between Sci-Fi and Bollywood drama and leaves the audience enthralled in parts. The first half depicts various shades of a father-son relationship whereas, post interval the action unfolds. However, the script tends to lose its track by making the efforts tasteless. Comparisons with Rajinikanth’s Robot and SRK’s Ra.One are bound to happen, especially in sequences built upon the same track. For instance, the train chase sequence brings back flashes of Chitti and his robotic skills, when compared with the aerial G-One.

Star Cast: Shahrukh as Shekhar is innocent, crystal sharp and natural. King Khan as G-One tries to carry the aura of superhero with immense poise, but is caged as a ‘family superhero’ rather than messiah of all. Kareena Kapoor (Sonia Subramanium), as always, manages to be easy on the eyes with her great looks and acting calibre. She also makes one realise that even in a superhero film, a heroine is a must. Armaan Verma is a superb pick for his role, as he sinks into the character perfectly, sometimes even outshining established stars like SRK and Kareena. Rajinikanth, rightly referred to as the ‘Real Superhero’ in the movie as well, steals the show within few seconds of his entry and makes the crowd clap and whistle with his mere presence. Arjun Rampal walks away with the cake for his deadly looks and impresses as the real bad man. Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra are wasted. Satish Shah’s presence induces a few funny moments. Shahana Goswami plays her part well.

Direction: What’s noteworthy about Anubhav Sinha’s work is the fact that he has paid attention to the quaint essential bit on the technological front and also, infused the right amount of emotional dose required for the movie to be termed an entertainer. The director makes his star cast look the best, yet loses few points as the track is led astray. At the same time, Anubhav understands the demand of Bollywood fans and tries to keep all the elements.

Dialogue/cinematography/music: Dialogues are a concoction of emotions with a message which runs throughout the movie, almost forming its soul- Victory of good over evil. Cinematography is excellent, while music is decent. Chammak Chhallo, which is already riding high on the popularity chart, lives up to the hype created, while Dildaara displays the love and emotional saga between Kareena and Shahrukh.

3ups and Down: Ra.One is surely crafted as a kids’ entertainer. Compared to Chitti, the emotional side of G-One takes a hit. SRK’s fans, who have been missing him on the silver screen after ‘My Name Is Khan’, can grab this opportunity to see their hero in a never-seen-before avatar. The movie is a joyful cinematic experience for game enthusiasts.

Mika Singh and Rakhi Sawant are friends again

Singer Mika Singh and item bomb Rakhi Sawant seem to have finally buried their hatchet.

The unexpected happened, when Suniel Shetty and the star cast of an upcoming film met up to celebrate Diwali a day before, along with Shweta Bhardwaj and Mahakshay Chaktaborty. The highlight of the evening was surely when long-time frenemies Rakhi Sawant and Mika Singh came together.

While the actress ignored the singer initially, Mika was insistently friendly, until Rakhi couldn't ignore his overtures any longer. So, the duo made up once again, fed each other sweets as Mika showed her how to make his trademark V sign. Also seen at the event was Mahesh Manjrekar.

Hrithik Roshan ignoring his health

The workaholic Hrithik Roshan is not having an easy way out. Spotted at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital a week back, the actor is advised to take some rest. But, the actor is not ready to make his director suffer and is all set to resume shooting for his forthcoming film ‘Agneepath’ at Madh Island.

According to reports published in a leading Daily, the actor has been suffering from Repetitive Stress Injuries (RPI's) due to his busy schedule, and has been advised 10 days of bed rest.

Hrithik’s 14-16 hours of shooting schedule is causing a continuous pressure on his joint muscles and his back, increasing his stress levels.

Apparently, Hrithik is not much happy with the bed rest as he is keen on finishing the Agneepath shoot and has to even start shooting for Krrish 3.

House inmates fighting to gain TRPs in Bigg Boss 5

The female participants of Bigg Boss house have proved that two female actress can never be good friends. They can only be jealous and will only end up finding reasons to insult each other. The environment in the house has gone from bad to worse; first it was Pooja Misrra picking up fights with Pooja Bedi, now almost all the participants fighting with each other.

Here's the latest from the house:

When all the participants are working hard to win the task of making diyas, Pooja Misrra is seen relaxing in her room and when Siddharth comes to wake Pooja up, she refuses to cooperate and takes up a fight with him. Siddharth leaves the room in anger and starts discussing the problem with Mandeep. Thereafter, while Mandeep and Sidharth are in the middle of a conversation, a sleepy Pooja barges into Siddharth’s elbow and almost slips from the stairs.

Then, a furious Pooja starts abusing Siddharth, accusing him of pushing her with his elbow intentionally. Finally Siddharth loses his cool and starts abusing Pooja. Mandeep tries to intervene and explain to Pooja that it was a genuine accident and not an intentional move.

On the other side of the house, Shraddha is leaving no chance to insult Pooja Bedi. She calls Pooja Bedi a “tuchhi” in the industry and tells her that even her children would be ashamed of their 45-year-old mother trying to look and act like a young girl. An agitated Pooja Bedi is extremely furious at Shraddha and asks her to keep her mouth shut and mind her own business.

RA.one movie review Ra One

Trailer
Music Video: Chammak Chhalo
Music Video: Dildara
Music Video: Criminal

Story:Goofy gaming expert, Shekhar Subramaniam (Shah Rukh Khan) wants to be a super hero for his son Prateik (Armaan Verma). But his young son, like all young sons, thinks super villans are more cool. So Shekhar creates the ultimate clash of good against evil by pitting a very powerful anti-hero Ra-One against a seemingly less potent good guy. But can the good guys ever lose?

Movie Review: Rajnikant's Robot may have pre-dated it, but Ra-One does manage to hold despite the larger-than-life quality of Rajni's antics as Chitti. Here, Shah Rukh Khan does the train walk sideways and he does it rather well. And if that is not enough, the two desi sci fi heroes have a split second encounter on the streets of Mumbai, with Rajni saar showing off his flying googles act and SRK replicating it with elan. Twin Rascals!

Ra-One works on several accounts. First because it has some interesting clashes betwen G-One, the good robot(Shah Rukh Khan) and Ra-One, the bad robot, who can take the form of anyone he wants. Secondly, the bond that G-One develops with the family he is supposed to protect, Kareena and her young son Prateik, is warm and winsome. There is also a lot of wit thrown in here and there in the screenplay, specially when the film concentrates on the geeky and loving Subramaniam's family dinners. And finally it is the excellently sung and choreographed Chammak-Challo number which keeps the mercury rising to unprecendented heights.

The film falls back in the emotional quotient. Understandably, robots have no feelings, but remember, even the steely Terminator managed to have a very special relationship with the mom and her messiah son. Also, considering so much money has been poured into the film, the special effects and the hi-tech gadgetry lacks the glitzy feel of Hollywood sci-fi. In some places, it even gets somewhat tacky with all those flying cars hurtling into nowhere and the digital game screen going gaudy in orange.

Small quibbles, actually, since Ra-One is sure to usher in a crackling Diwali at the box office and give the audience paisa vasool entertainment, with fine performances by both Shah Rukh and Kareena. Even young Armaan is efficient. Go have a blast.
Shah Rukh Khan in Ra.One

Anyone, who has written about India [ Images ] in the last 10 years, will probably tell you about the 'two Indias' -- one that is leaping and bounding towards the future, eager to embrace everything that is new and the other that continues to be tied down by archaic traditions, refusing to adapt.

One wouldn't be entirely incorrect if one says the same about Shah Rukh Khan's [ Images ] Diwali [ Images ] release Ra.One.

Starring Khan alongside Kareena Kapoor [ Images ] and Arjun Rampal [ Images ], Ra.One, on the one hand, has special effects that no Hindi movie can boast of so far, but on the other, it is saddled with an almost 1990s-style treatment with songs popping out of nowhere and dialogues that make you cringe.

Even as Shah Rukh Khan flies over buildings, jumps over cars and even stops an out-of-control train with his bare hands, his valiant efforts to wow his audiences somewhat fail thanks to a weak storyline, some rather juvenile acting and a poor screenplay.

To make matters more unbearable, the dialogues go from bad to worse and Vishal-Shekhar's music -- barring a couple of numbers -- has little to offer in a film that could have possibly ushered in an era of science fiction cinema in mainstream Bollywood.

In a sense, Ra.One is a modern-day retelling of Frankenstein. A young boy (played rather well by debutant Armaan Verma) tells his techie father Shekhar (Shah Rukh Khan) to create a super-villain (played by Arjun Rampal), who isn't just evil but also invincible. The nerdy father, who heads a gaming division of a company, gives him just that not realising what he's unleashed upon the world.

Ra.One, you see, is a video game named after the antagonist in it who, because of the artificial intelligence programme (and a process too complicated to understand) designed into him, manages to break out of the virtual world and step into our world.

Needless to say, much havoc ensues and Shekhar's son Prateek manages to find himself in the eye of the storm and on the run from his evil nemesis who can take the form of anything he sees or touches, quite like T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Kareena Kapoor in Ra.One The allusions to popular sci-fi movies don't end here. There's a bit of Bicentennial Man with Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) falling in love with G.One, the boy that has the face of her dead husband and protects her and her son from a seemingly inevitable end. And there's even a hint of Matrix with trench coat-sporting characters cricking their necks before delivering punches.

The list can go on but what makes Ra.One such a drag is that through all of this, you're never once able to relate to any of the characters in the film let alone anything else.

Sci-fi movies do require a certain willing suspension of disbelief, but the makers of Ra.One demand a heck of a lot more. They seem to expect their audiences to take a blind leap of faith and hope that the charisma of one of India's biggest stars manages to hold the movie together.

Sadly and somewhat predictably, it doesn't.

Ra.One is one long disjoined chain of events and scenes that aren't just half-baked, but also lackadaisically connected with the seemingly sole purpose of being able to show the (almost) 46-year-old actor performing some breathtaking stunts.

India Whitewash to England lose Give Diwali Gift

India thrashed England by 95 runs in the final ODI at the Eden Gardens to win series 5-0. Chasing 272, England were bowled out for just 176, conceding India fifth comprehensive victory in the series.

India struggled to come to terms on a slow Eden Gardens track before skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni struck a valiant unbeaten half-century to post a challenging 271 for eight in the fifth and final one-day against England on Tuesday.

Riding on Dhoni's unbeaten 69-ball 75, which was studded with four sixes and three fours, the Indians, who were struggling at one stage, lifted themselves by notching up 39 runs in the last two overs.

There was a time when England bowler Steven Finn took two wickets in one over as India lost three quick wickets to be in tatters.

But Team India made it up scoring 60 runs in the last five overs, thanks to Dhoni's late outburst.

Eyeing a 5-0 whitewash, India had a sedate start to the match.

With the usual electrifying atmosphere missing at the Eden, India took time to settle down after they were put into bat by a team, yet to win a match in the series.

Back to his opening slot in place of Parthiv Patel who was replaced by local lad Manoj Tiwary, Gautam Gambhir took the risks with odd boundaries while his partner Ajinkya Rahane was slow to start with.

India could not score more than 41 runs from the first powerplay even as the new opening duo of Gambhir and Rahane remained unscathed.

The duo survived a couple of anxious moments as the English fielders did not show urgency on the field.

Barring Steven Finn who generated bounce and pace on a slow looking track, none of the English bowlers looked impressive.

But the visitors bounced back, riding on a superb second spell by Finn who was reintroduced in the 18th over.

Having put on 80 together, Gambhir (38, 46b, 4x4), first time playing as an opener in the series, played on to Finn's first ball of the second spell.

Shraddha breaks down and loses her temper : Bigg Boss 5

Shraddha Sharma will never forget her birthday spent at the Bigg Boss house! Her day started with a fight with Pooja Bedi as she blamed Shraddha for breaking the rules by keeping the buckets occupied during bathing hours.

After a spat with Pooja Bedi, Shraddha got into an altercation with Vida Samadzai, as Vida continued to taunt and disrespect Shraddha and irked her on her big day. Even Mahek Chahal provoked her and called her two faced.
Finally, Shraddha was taken to the gardens by house captain Shonali, along with Pooja Misrra and Lakshmi. When they tried to play peacemakers, a very hyper and emotional Shraddha Sharma broke down.

It seems Shraddha’s bad days are far from over, as the fights are breaking out all over the house.

Pooja Bedi nominated for eviction : Bigg Boss 5

The Bigg Boss house is becoming spicier with inmates picking up fights time and again and targeting each other. A trend of sorts has been set uo, wherein participants nominated for eviction, end up picking up fights with other inmates week after week,

This week, Pooja Bedi and Shraddha Sharma have been nominated for the first time and the same hasn't gone down well with them. The inmates nominated Pooja for eviction as they felt that she was trying to make groups in the house. After the nominations, Pooja and Shraddha took up a fight over a bucket.

Pooja is said to have entered the house and made a group with Juhi Parmar, Lakshmi, Raageshwari and some others. This behaviour didn’t go well with the other house mates and they nominated Pooja.

Also, Shakti Kapoor and Mahek Chahal have been nomintaed yet again.

Now let’s leave it to the audience to decide the fate of Pooja and Shraddha.

Rockstar has been in the limelight for its outstanding music and Ranbir Kapoor-Nargis Fakhri’s chemistry. The film is all set to release on the November 11 2011 and everyone associated with the film is busy planning innovative promotional strategies.

Recently, the team visited Punjab tour. They visited Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. During the trip, the team took out time from their promotional schedule to visit the divine Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Ranbir Kapoor, director Imtiaz Ali and producer Hiren Gandhi made it a point to visit the holy place at 4 in the morning, whereas the film's heroine, newbie Nargis Fakhri visited the temple the next morning at 11 am.

Hopefully this holy visit will help the film do well at the box office.
