Dravid breaks into top-10 of ICC rankings India Climbs to Second Place 2011

Dubai, Nov 23 (TruthDive): India has raised to No.2 position in the Test rankings. Australia’s series-leveling triumph over South Africa in Johannesburg has helped India rise to the second spot in ICC’s latest Test rankings.

India is currently leading a three-Test home series against the West Indies 2-0. India was the world number one till they were humiliated 0-4 by England in an away series in July-August.

South Africa lost the second Test against Australia. South Africa thus slipped to third on the Reliance ICC Test Championship table following its drawn home series against Australia.

England held on to the No 1 spot, a good eight points ahead of India at 125 rating points.

Australia’s series-saving two-wicket victory in Johannesburg has earned it a point and it now sits 11 ratings points behind South Africa, in fourth place.

Sri Lanka completes the top-five with 99 points followed by Pakistan (98).

The top five positions in the Test batsman rankings are unchanged. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara is the top-ranked batsman, while the highest placed Indian player is Sachin Tendulkar at fifth. Rahul Dravid, after a terrific year with the bat, has crept up to seventh.

The ICC announced that its chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, will step down at the end of June when his contract ends. Mr. Lorgat, a South African, was last year offered a three year extension to his initial contract, which started in 2008, but he only agreed to add one more year.

“My sense is to step aside after having delivered a successful ICC Cricket World Cup and the new global ICC strategy which is now in place,” he said in a statement.

Indian batting great Rahul Dravid moved four places to eighth in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for Test batsmen released Friday while teammate V.V.S. Laxman gained five places to the 13th spot following their centuries in the second Test against West Indies that ended in Kolkata Thursday.

Dravid scored 119 and Laxman hit 176 as the home team cruised to an innings victory over the West Indies at the historic Eden Gardens.

Another stalwart of world cricket, West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul (37), slipped in the other direction following his side's defeat. The Guyanese left-hander lost four places to settle for 10th.

Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara retained the top spot.

Pragyan Ojha is the main mover in the bowlers' rankings as the left-arm slow bowler gained six places to 26th position, the highest ranking of his career to date.

The 25-year-old took six wickets in the second Test, helping to give India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
