Melbourne: Dec 27, 2011
India reached 99 at the loss of two wickets at tea on the second day in reply to Australia's first innings total of 333.
Virender Sehwag slammed his 31st Test half-century but fell just before the tea break in the opening Test against Australia at Melbourne.
India trail by a further 234 runs with Rahul Dravid (25 not out) and Sachin Tendulkar (2 not out) at the crease.
India, after making a steady start in their innings, lost both their openers in the second session. Australia pacer Ben Hilfenhaus provided his side the first breakthrough when he had Gautam Gambhir caught by wicketkeeper Brad Haddin for three.
Sehwag then joined forces with Rahul Dravid and added 75 runs for the third wicket. The right-handed explosive batsman completed his half-century with a boundary off spinner Nathan Lyon. His half-century came in just 59 balls.
Sehwag scored 67 off 83 balls, which included seven boundaries.
Dravid, on the other hand, faced some difficulties during his stay at the crease as he was beaten several times by bounce and swing.
Brief Scores: Australia 333 (Ed Cowan 68, Ricky Ponting 62, Peter Siddle 41; Zaheer Khan 4 for 77, R Ashwin 3 for 81, Umesh Yadav 3 for 106) lead India 99 for 2 (Virender Sehwag 67, Rahul Dravid 25*; James Pattinson 1 for 25, Ben Hilfenhaus 1 for 27) by 234 runs.
