Bajaj Auto on Tuesday unveiled its first ever four-wheeler for intra-city passenger transportation targeting threewheeler customers. The company has until now been manufacturing two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles.

"The first thing I want to make clear is this is not a car but a four-wheeler. I am an anti-car guy and this is a fourwheeler autoricksaw. That is where I am going to position this car. The car will be sold through Bajaj three-wheeler dealerships," Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto, said.

The vehicle is powered by a 200 cc rear-mounted petrol engine and will also be available in CNG and LPG variants. It has a top speed of 70 kmph with a mileage of 35 km per litre.

It will be manufactured at the company's Aurangabad plant.

"We have been maintaining since 2009 that we are no longer working on a small car but a four-wheeler. Certainly, this is a product, the core customers for which are those who use a three-wheeler," Bajaj explained.

"This vehicle has been designed for intra-city passenger transport keeping in mind intra-city duty cycles and safety requirements," he added.

However, he refused to divulge details about the price and investment that the firm had made in developing the product.

Bajaj said as a matter of strategy he always looks at developing a product keeping in mind a 20 per cent EBIDTA margin.

Bajaj also did not share sales targets for the new product.

Commenting on the potential of the vehicle, he said the company expects a big growth opportunity by targeting the three-wheeler segment.

"We make about 5,20,000 three-wheelers a year of which only 2,00,000 are sold in India, while the rest are exported. So, we see countries like Sri Lanka, which could be the first overseas market and has a huge potential for RE60," he said.

Bajaj Auto also plans to export the vehicle to Bangladesh and African markets, where Baja Auto already has a presence in the three-wheeler market.

About the company's alliance with Renault- Nissan, Bajaj said, "They have not seen the product as yet and will be seeing it at the auto expo. Once they see it, we will decide the way forward."

He said if the Renault-Nissan alliance is interested, Bajaj can manufacture the RE60 with design modifications to sell it under their brand. In January, 2008 Bajaj Auto had unveiled its concept passenger car with an expected price of $ 3000.

Taking a dig at the Tata Nano Bajaj said, "I am personally not sure what the Nano is. If it is the cheapest car in the world or God's gift to twowheeler (customers)."

Expo turns away 100 firms
More than 100 exhibitors have been denied permission to participate at the forthcoming Auto Expo to be held in Delhi due to space constraint at Pragati Maidan.

The firms have been denied permissions on two criteria - late entry and past history of participation, Auto Expo 2012 Steering Committee chairman Rajive Kaul said, adding that about 60 exhibitors are from overseas countries, while the rest are domestic companies.

The latest edition of the exhibition will be spread across 1.15 lakh sq mt and will now present 1,500 participants from 24 nations, including the US, China, Thailand and Turkey.

The End of the Mayan Calender 2012 DIARY Dec. 21, 2012 might

I’ve just recorded a new entry in the Top Five Events of 2012 series, this one addressing the Mayan calendar systems and what day 13.0.0.0.0 on Dec. 21, 2012 might “mean.” It’s actually a critique on attempts to pin meaning of the day. And, for the most part, I’m not up to giving my opinion yet — though I do provide some thoughts by other writers. There will be two more parts to this part — next, an interview with Carlos Cedillo, a daykepper, and then the last in the series — my own viewpoint on the matter of the Mayan calendar and 2012. You do get a bit of that in this recording, but not the heart of my theory.

MAYAN CALENDER DIARY. SUNSALUTATIONS !!! So every year i write a bit about the previous year. I spent a great deal of this year growing.. growing from unplanned situations .. Planned situations going ary also. I am a Neaurotic thinker

It's the mayan version of the Y2038 problem. While the unsigned 32 bit integer will send us to the 70ies on 03:14:07 UTC on Tuesday, 19 January 2038, the same happens on 22. December 2012. The mayan calender will send us from

As it turns out, there’s more to 2012 than just Dec. 21. They had all kinds of other predictions! Here are the top 15:

1.) Rick Santorum wins the presidential election after taking the time to have a cup of coffee with more than 200 million voters. When polled, voters express confidence that Santorum will be the best president to have for that “3 a.m. phone call,” if only because after consuming so much caffeine, he will be unable to sleep for the next four years.

2. ) Alternatively, Mitt Romney wins after changing his name to Not Not Not Not Not Not Romney and billing himself as the “most emphatically Not Romney” of all the candidates. (It is reassuring that even the Ancient Mayans had no idea how the Republican nominating process was going to work out.)

3.) We discover another new planet that is not capable of supporting human life but that proves strangely hospitable to Kardashians.

4.) After the purchase of the 1 billionth plaster owl at Urban Outfitters, hipsters realize that the very fact of hipsterdom has become mainstream and commit ritual seppuku en masse by drinking tainted PBR. (This is less a prediction than a hope.)

5.) Netflix somehow manages to screw up the only fail-safe business model still remaining by sending more offensive apology letters to its customers that begin, “So sorry that you are too fat and lazy to object to paying more money for no additional services.”

6.) The God particle is discovered. This baffles the Nietzsche particle.

7.) Michael Fassbender becomes famous enough that he starts appearing in movies with his pants on. The moviegoing public deserts him.

8.) Google, in an attempt to compete with Facebook, changes its famous search function to give you only results about yourself. Amazingly, this works.

9.) Barack Obama’s popularity continues to increase. No one can quite say why. Eventually it turns out that Newt Gingrich has been sitting on the lever.

10.) There is a breakthrough in e-reader technology: a portable reading device with no glare or battery probems that can withstand being dunked in water and that easily allows flipping back and forth from page to page. Made of paper. Called a book. No one buys it because you cannot use it to check your e-mail or live-tweet anything.

11.) People get sick of Twitter and decide that it is a waste of time. They do not stop using Twitter.

12) “War Horse” sweeps the Oscars on the sheer strength of a title that combines the two things most likely to win your motion picture an award.

13.) Everyone in Europe reaches an accord about the future of the euro and how to work together peaceably and collegially. The accord is summed up in the phrase “Forget it, the Ancient Mayans should be back here soon and we have no other ideas.”

14.) Kim Jong Eun attempts to take on Michelle Obama by creating his own health initiative, “Let’s Not Move And Also Let’s Eat Bacon.”

14.) Michael Phelps wins no medals in the London Olympics, marking the first time that anyone was surprised and disappointed that a guy who had spent the past four years eating large quantities of food and smoking controlled substances did not win an Olympic medal.

15.) Ancient Mayans return to Earth seeking to extract vengeance and destroy the planet. After taking one look at what Congress is doing, they shudder and turn away. “Never mind,” they mutter in ancient Mayan. “It seems as though you have this well in hand

Makar Sankranti History Story Msg SMS Date14 Jan 2012

Makar Sankranti History
Makar Sankranti History;

Makar Sankranthi, or Sankranti is a popular Indian festival. It is celebrated in many parts of the country and also in some other parts of the world with great zeal and enthusiasm. It is a harvest festival which is basically celebrated in the Hindu communities. In Indian, the states of Bihar, Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu celebrate the festival with great fervor and gusto. In Tamil Nadu the festival is known as Pongal, in Assam as Bhogali Bihu, in Punjab, as Lohiri, in Gujarat and Rajasthan, as Uttararayan. Outside India, the festival is given due importance in the countries like Nepal where it is celebrated as Maghe Sakrati or Maghi, in Thailand where it is named as Songkran and in Myanmar where it is called Thingyan.

The festival of Makar Sankranti marks the day when the sun begins its northward journey and enters the sign of Makar (the Capricorn) from the Tropic of Cancer. It is like the movement of sun from Dakshinayana (south) to Uttarayana (north) hemisphere. It is the one of the few chosen Indian Hindu festivals which has a fixed date. This day falls on the 14th of January every year according to the Hindu Solar Calendar. The festival is considered to be a day from where onwards all the auspicious ritualistic ceremonies can be solemnized in any Hindu family. This is thus considered as the holy phase of transition.

Shankranti means transmigration of Sun from one zodiac in Indian astrology to the other. As per Hindu customary beliefs, there are 12 such Sankrantis in all. But the festival is celebrated only on the occasion of Makara Sankaranti i.e. the transition of the Sun from Sagittarius ('Dhanu' Rashi ) to Capricorn('Makara' Rasi). In this case, the zodiacs are measured sidereally, and not tropically, in order to account the Earth's precession. That is why the festival falls about 21 days after the tropical winter solstice which lies between December 20 and 23rd. Here the sun marks the starting of Uttarayana, which means northern progress of Sun.

Makar Sankranti holds special significance as on this day the solar calendar measures the day and night to be of equal durations on this day. From this day onwards, the days become longer and warmer. It is the day when people of northern hemisphere, the northward path of the sun marks the period when the sun is getting closer to them. The importance of the day was signified by the Aryans who started celebrating this day as an auspicious day for festivities. The reason behind this may be the fact that it marked the onset of harvest season. Even in the epic of Mahabharata, an episode mentions how people in that era also considered the day as auspicious. Bhishma Pitamah even after being wounded in the Mahabharata war lingered on till Uttarayan set in, so that he can attain heavenly abode in auspiciuous times. It is said that death on this day to brings Moksha or salvation to the deceased.

Makar SankrantiMakar Sankranti in India
Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival celebrated in various parts of India. According to the lunar calendar, when the sun moves from the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn or from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana, in the month of Poush in mid-January, it commemorates the beginning of the harvest season and cessation of the northeast monsoon in South India. The movement of the earth from one zodiac sign into another is called Sankranti and as the Sun moves into the Capricorn zodiac known as Makar in Hindi, this occasion is named as Makar Sankranti in the Indian context. It is one of the few Hindu Indian festivals which are celebrated on a fixed date i.e. 14th January every year.

Makar Sankranti, apart from a harvest festival is also regarded as the beginning of an auspicious phase in Indian culture. It is said as the 'holy phase of transition'. It marks the end of an inauspicious phase which according to the Hindu calendar begins around mid-December. It is believed that any auspicious and sacred ritual can be sanctified in any Hindu family, this day onwards. Scientifically, this day marks the beginning of warmer and longer days compared to the nights. In other words, Sankranti marks the termination of winter season and beginning of a new harvest or spring season.

All over the country, Makar Sankranti is observed with great fanfare. However, it is celebrated with distinct names and rituals in different parts of the country. In the states of northern and western India, the festival is celebrated as the Sankranti day with special zeal and fervor. The importance of this day has been signified in the ancient epics like Mahabharata also. So, apart from socio-geographical importance, this day also holds a historical and religious significance. As, it is the festival of Sun God and he is regarded as the symbol divinity and wisdom, the festival also holds an eternal meaning to it.
