Republic Day parade Republic Day of India - Know about Republic Day of India which is celebrated on 26th Januray.
NEW DELHI: Indian handicrafts will have a tableau of their own at the Republic Day Parade this year, the first-time the "rich cultural heritage" of this sector employing seven million people across the country is being showcased at the prestigious national celebration.

The Ministry of Defence selected the Indian Handicrafts tableau proposed by the Textiles Industry along with nine others out of 25 ministries that applied for the display of tableaux during the January 26 parade.

The Indian handicrafts tableau will be No. 14 in the order of the march at the parade.

"The tableau conveys that while the Indian handicraft sector is an unorganised, labour-intensive, decentralised industry, it provides employment to over 7 million artisans in rural and semi-urban ares," Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) S S Gupta said.

The tableau, designed by the National Centre for Design and Development, a national level design centre, will depict Kashmiri weavers weaving a 'Kaleen', North-East artists weaving a wooden basket, Chhattisgarh's 'Dhokra' artifacts, Delhi's mat-weaving specialty and toys made in Andhra Pradesh, among other handicrafts.

The cultural heritage of 20 states, including Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, would also be showcased. The tableau will also demonstrate the process of sourcing, retail and export of handicrafts under different approaches. A live demonstration of these processes will be given by 10 national awardees.

'Indian Handicrafts-Magic of Gifted Hands' is the logo adopted by the Textiles Ministry to promote indigenous crafts and culture and the floating of a tableau in the Republic Day Parade is the second such initiative for brand promotion of Indian handicrafts.

In November last year, the same logo was used during the Indian International Trade Fair (IITF) to focus on handicrafts created by local Indian craftsmen.

NEW DELHI: Traffic was thrown out of gear on Monday morning due to traffic diversions during a rehearsal for the Republic Day parade.

The dress-rehearsal, which took place during peak hours on a week day, resulted in long tailbacks on NH-24, Ring Road, Mathura Road, Bhairon Road and Sarai Kale Khan. Traffic congestion was reported till about 1pm, when the parade ended.

The 8km parade route starts from Vijay Chowk at the foot of Raisina Hill to Red Fort, meandering via Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg. The parade, which started around 10am, resulted in gridlock in Dhaula Kuan, Sardar Patel Marg, Ram Manohar Lohia roundabout, Ashoka Road, Ferozshah Road, Mandi House, Connaught Place and Barakhamba Road.

Jams took place from Noida Mor to Indraprastha Park, Bhairon Road crossing to Sarai Kale Khan and Mathura Road W-point to Sunder Nagar crossing. Due to the diversions, a high volume of traffic was reported from DND flyover and Ashram Chowk.

"Traffic congestion was reported from ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Nizamuddin Bridge, Dhaula Kuan, Ring Road and areas around India Gate," said a senior traffic police officer.

Commuters complained it took more than double the time to reach office in the morning. "I left my Mayur Vihar residence at 10am but reached office at Lajpat Nagar only by noon. Usually it don't take me more than 40 minutes," said Neha, a commuter.

No traffic was allowed to ply from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath from 5am to 12.30pm or cross Rajpath from 9.30am, including Rafi Marg, Janpath and Man Singh Road in central Delhi.

Salman Rushdie a coward, says Taslima
Taslima Nasreen

Anupam Kher says Taslima's comment is ironical considering she is a person who has taken shelter in another country!

Salman Rushdie's decision to skip the Jaipur literary fest has resulted in more debates than one. After Rushdie declared that "paid assassins" were being sent by the Mumbai underworld to eliminate him, author Taslima Nasrin took an anti-Rushdie stance by tweeting: "Rushdie apologized to Mullahs & became born-again Muslim after fatwa was issued against him. Canceling India trip is his latest cowardly act." This was enough to trigger a new debate and the one of the people to contest Taslima's view was actor Anupam Kher. Retweeting Taslima's views, the actor said: "This from a person who has taken shelter in another country is ironical:)".

Not one to give up, Taslima shot back saying: "You think writers who're forced to take shelter in another country shd shut their mouth! They shldn't hv freedom of expression!" The microblogging site soon heated up with Kher saying: "You don't need to shut up but you are passing a judgement on @SalmanRushdie's decision and calling it cowardly.:)" Then, it was Taslima's turn to answer and she did by writing: "@AnupamPkher Why shldn't I say that his act is cowardly if I think his act is cowardly? Didn't you ever pass a judgment on anyone's decision?" Anupam chose not to reply to this one but this time around, Taslima made an open-ended remark by just writing: "Chamchas have cow-dung in their heads."

Zaheer Khan, Isha Sharvani to marry in March Wallpaper Zaheer Khan to tie nuptial knot with Isha Sharvani in March

Latest Bollywood news on Isha Sharvani, Zaheer Khan. Going by the latest report Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan and Bollywood actress Isha Sharvani are going to tie the knot in March.

Isha Sharvani

Zaheer Khan and Isha Sharvani to marry in March.

Reports suggest that long-time friends Zaheer Khan and Isha Sharvani will tie the knot in March this year. Whereas Isha Sharvani is a Bollywood star, who despite having a dream launch by Subhash Ghai could not make it big in Bollywood, Zaheer is a well-known Indian cricketer.

A close friend of the couple said, “Zaheer Khan and Isha Sharvani have decided to tie the knot at the end of March this year. This wedding is just two-and-a-half months away.”

The love story of Isha Sharvani and Zaheer Khan has not been anything short of a story of a hit Bollywood film. The two broke-up many times during their five year relationship but eventually got together and are now taking their relation to the next level. A friend of the couple says, “All their friction is a thing of the past. Every couple has their share of ups and downs and this one is no exception. Anyway, its wedding bells for them in March.”

Though Zaheer Khan’s family is very fond of Isha Sharvani and has been insisting that their son should settle down in life, they have now got pro-active and even had formal discussion with the parents of Isha Sharvani to plan the details of this wedding. Now the parents of the would-be groom and would-be bride have zeroed upon some dates and they feel that March is a good time for this special day and the marriage should take place right after Zaheer Khan’s return from the present Australian tour, where he is performing national duties for the country’s cricket team. But, in case of a difficulty, they are also said to be keeping a back-up date in October.

The details about this grand wedding, where celebrities from both the world of Bollywood and the world of cricket are going to be in the list of guests, will only be known once Zaheer Khan is back in India.

Mumbai, Jan 16: While Indian batsmen are struggling on Australian soil and breaking their heads over countering Australian pace attack, Zaheer Khan has other things to think about. The Indian pacer wants to put an end to the rumours of his wedding with girlfriend Isha Sharvani.

If Mumbai Mirror, a daily tabloid is to be believed, the duo will get married in March 2012 at a grand function which will be attended by stars from cricketing and bollywood worlds along with the couple's families and friends.

Zaheer Khan's affair with Isha has been in the news since 2005, when they met at a private function. Though initially it was just 'friendship', later Zaheer Khan reportedly proposed to Isha.

In Mid 2007, rumour floated again saying both Zaheer and Isha broke up and had decided to stay away from each other.

But 2010 was reportedly a reunion time for both, when they became thick friends again.

Now with the permission of both families, Zaheer and Isha are set to convert their friendship into marriage.

When Zaheer Khan comes back from his ongoing Australian trip, dates will be announced. If March is not a suitable time, then their wedding is expected to be postponed to October 2012 due to hectic cricket schedule, sources close to Zaheer Khan told daijiworld.
